8 Effective Ways to get the results you want from your trade shows! Trade Shows represent a significant investment of resources. Here are tips to getting the best return on your investment. ONE: Know why you’re there. Having a definable purpose and goals leads to measurable results. Choose a trade show that attracts the type of person you want to reach: customers, distributors, investors, industry leaders, etc. TWO: Be ready to reach out. Trade shows are not for the timid. You must be outgoing but not overbearing, informative but not overwhelming, friendly but not over-eager. Be genuine. Practice “pick-up lines” that are not trite, but indicate real friendliness. Concentrate on the needs of the person you are talking to, not on your need to sell something. THREE: Hand out something memorable. Your business card will not likely make it to the home or office of your visitors, so give them something of value, something unique, something useful. (see our Trade Show Catalog for suggestions.) FOUR: Be in shape. Are you ready to be on your feet hours at a time with little rest or food? Trade show booth associates who sit in a chair and wait for customers to approach them are not impressive. Get up, get out in front, put a real smile on your face. You can rest after the trade show is over. FIVE: Be sold on your own product or service. Focus on benefits to your buyers. Demonstrate if possible. Have appropriate literature. If you can’t demonstrate, have a DVD playing that does. SIX: Collect contact information. Do this by getting business cards, or having a drawing for a significant and desirable prize. Afterwards, follow-up with a thank you, an e-mail, or a mailing reinforcing your product’s benefits. SEVEN: Have an attractive booth. Big, eye-catching photos, models of your products, well-designed literature, goodies (candy, etc.). This is your first impression; make it a good one; get your booth professionally designed if needed. EIGHT: Evaluate. Honestly discuss with your team how you did, what could/should have been done better, whether the audience was right, whether you see a good return on your investment of time and money.
